13 Reasons Why

TV Show

I questioned writing this because I'm pretty sure the show isn't over yet but I'm so upset with the way that this story is going. The first season was incredible! The story is a high school girl that probably had mental illness that she was battling. She was so good at making friends but eventually her relationships would die because of her reputation and those friends would turn on her and add to her bad reputation when in reality, she was innocent and just trying to be a good friend. She tried so hard to be accepted but in every turn she was alienated. So she killed herself. And instead of leaving a note she recorded herself telling people what they could have done to help her. It was a story that literally describes high school.
I didn't go to a school that had "cliques" like a normal school. I went to a racially charged school... The Polynesians hung out with Polynesians, The Central Americans hung out with other Central Americans and South Americans with South Americans. The Asians had 2 groups; the pretty and cool ones and then the smart ones. And the white kids tried to fit in where we could but specifically the drama department. There was no hierarchy... So I don't exactly know how this feels but the school closest to us where a lot of my childhood friends had all of this. It had girls like Jessica Davis who joined the cheerleading team just to be popular. The Baseball team ran the school, and if you didn't make a name for yourself by the first year then you've been branded a loser. I was planning on going to the other school but at the very last minute chose to go to my high school. I never regretted it.
Anyway, the first season was amazing. The second season has the same people but they've accepted that there is a problem with the way high school is run. They stop fighting each other and start fighting the higher problem, the school and a particularly spoiled baseball student athlete. There is still bullying but it's really just a couple of really angry students. The third season has the core group really taking care of each other and shunning the bullies. They are in leadership roles that can enact change and they are making a difference.  But then something happens and their world is rocked again. They find a way to save one of their own but they do it by almost literally throwing one of the bullies under the bus. The was the third season ended was so dangerous. It basically teaches murder is okay if the person has been bad in the past and that is not the case. Murder, even accidental murder (manslaughter) has to be prosecuted by the proper authorities. High school friends do not get to decide that you were justified killing someone that you don't like.
