Oregon

This was an adventure in a weird way. It was supposed to just be me hanging out with my brother and getting him out to explore the place that he's lived in for 6 months. It kind of worked... However I flew into Portland and he lives in Medford... That's a 4 hour drive. He told me that he would pick me up and I convinced him to spend the night before I left to come back in Portland. Also since Dylan took the whole time I was there off I asked if we could drive out to the coast and see the ocean. It was not a short drive. So basically Dylan drove the 4 hours to Portland picked me up and we drove back and it took us about 10 hours to get home. But Oregon is so pretty! I've been lucky to not drive myself but to spend a lot of time in the car just exploring. The next day we were going to go hiking but we ended up just watching TV (sleeping through 11 episode of a TV show.) We must have needed it though because we were both in and out of conciousness. I really felt like I had a g

Moxie

This is Amy Pohler coming back as "the cool mom" I don't really know any of the teenagers in the show but Clarke Greg and Ike Barinholtz are some friendly adults in the show and Patrick Schwarzenegger is the hot guy of the show. A general breakdown of the show is high school student Vivian is trying to write an essay for her college application but the question stumps her... Until she sees what her mom was up to when she was in high school. Turns out Amy Pohler was a total political rebel who spent a lot of her life fighting for female rights. So when Vivian finds this out and sees how things are at her school she becomes inspired and writes a zine about the sexism that totally controls the school. The movement takes off and other girls get involved and Vivian eventually becomes a more confident person herself so in a way that is the story of the show. I haven't seen Hadley Robinson in anything else but she is in things, she was in Little Women with Emma Watson but

Ginny and Georgia

This show was made out to be kind of the next Gilmore Girls. A mother and her daughter set out against the world. This version has a little brother and a lot more drama... So basically this is nothing like Gilmore Girls. Georgia did run away from home when she got pregnant but she also never stopped running. This part of the story reminds me of John Tucker Must Die where Jenny McCarthy moves every time she breaks up with a guy. Ginny is super smart but half black so she doesn't feel like she fits in but also she moves a lot so she just doesn't try to get involved and make friends. But she is so cute! This show is actually about how they move to Massachusetts and start over and they actually start getting involved and maybe even make friends. So we get to know people in this town in Mass and so there are a lot of fun dynamic characters and even maybe a love triangle or 2... This only has one season so there isn't a lot to talk about but I cannot wait until the next seaso

Untamed

This isn't going to be the best post because I listened to most of this book back in December but I just finished it last month. So I don't really remember a lot about the specific stories but I do know that I really loved them. Glennon Doyle is a great story teller! And she reads the audiobook so it really is like she is telling the stories herself. I love that. I used to be so anti self help books but a few years ago I found a podcast where they would read a book and live it for 2 weeks and then talk about it. So they would give me kind of the cliffs notes on these books but I also really appreciated their takes on it. So even though I don't really listen to that podcast anymore I started reading more of those kind of books. Plus my friend likes them so she recommends a lot to me. In fact it was her copies that I listened to and then read. So we listened to the book on a road trip to St. George and I was sitting there saying "me too" to almost everything she s

Patriarchy at work

Ok so I am a trainer, that is my job title. My actual job description is to retrain, mentor and test competency for the people I'm over. So part of mentoring is talking to people and getting to know them as workers and people. So a big part of my day is walking the floor and seeing how everyone is doing. Some people ask work questions and some just tell me personal stories but I try to give them all the options. Well this week some guy who is actually a terrible leader and has never had my job before chose to tell me I was doing my job wrong. Now I know and everyone that was witness to this discussion (as it was very vocal to everyone) knows that I was legitimately doing my job. I was currently helping my best friend/soul sister who is on my team do her job. Then when we both brought it up seperately how disrespectful it was he said some shit about how "he understands that there is a fine line between being friends and coworkers and he just wants to make sure we know where the

Thoughts, just thoughts

I have noticed in other people this habit to assign thoughts to other people. I know that I do this myself as well and I think that is why I can notice it in other people. So in this thought I am going to talk about "other people" but just know that I know this is all about me. Most of us have this habit of feeling weird about someone or something that happened to or with us. We analyze everything about an uncomfortable situation, including what the other people involved think about it. Example, you make a dumb joke at work and you spend the rest of the day thinking about how dumb it was. We tell ourselves that the other person is thinking all day about how dumb we are. They are probably not… They are thinking about their response to the joke if thinking about the joke at all. They probably forgot about it instantly… This is more than the theory that people are only always thinking about themselves. This is about how different people focus on different things. Example, I have

Murder Amoung the Mormons

As a prior mormon this is a story that I was somewhat familiar with but I did not know it ended how it did. Makes sense though as it was before my time and they clearly tried to cover it up. It was embarrassing to them. Since this is a documentary I will tell you some basics about what happened. Mark Hoffman was a very talented forger and when he found a way to make money off it he started doing it more and more. However eventually like things do, they caught up to him. He ended up making some sales that he couldn't deliver on and instead of just losing out on the money he devised a plan to make bombs. According to him he didn't want these bombs to kill people, they were more like experiments and distractions... Yeah sure Mark. He actually got away with it at first. But spoiler, he's in prison now... This was another short series so this is all I really have but it's kind of a cool story so you should watch it.

A Teacher

Kate Mara is brilliant in everything she does but this show was extra! It's short so this isn't going to be a long post but I did have to say how amazing this show is. One, it's a crazy storyline but two, I really liked everyone. They did so good to make Kate look like she wasn't doing the wrong thing but also the guy was also clearly innocent. She was the criminal, she took advantage of him. But I liked her and I wanted her to be happy. I also really can't believe that they released his name and people could know what he went through. Some of the scenes of him in college were just tragic and the way his life turned out is terrible. I also wish they would have shown more about how the teacher became happy again because she was a criminal, a predator, on the registry. Anyway, like I said the storyline is amazing but also the acting is really good too. Even the "teenagers"
