No Strings Attached

Movie

This was the weirdest turn of events because this movie came out the same time as Friends with Benefits which had the exact same premise and one stared Jackie from That 70s show and the other star Kelso! And the twist of a lifetime, they were probably starting this kind of a relationship at the same time they were filming these movies! Honestly I don't know about the timeline for sure, I just know that they started "hooking up" a while before they got serious about each other. They kind of got married quickly but that's because they were "no strings attached friends with benefits" for I think a year or more.

Anyway, this is about Ashton Kutcher's movie. And it has Natalie Portman who is obviously a legitimate movie star! Cary Elwes and Kevin Kline are also official actors who are classic movie stars. And then for fun we get the best friends Jake Johnson (The New Girl) Mindy Kaling (The Office and the Mindy Project) and Ludacris! Yeah Luda graces this film with his ultimate presence. Now I am going to spoil this movie because it's been 9 years...

Natalie plays a doctor who has had to turn tough because the world is hard and not fair. Ashton plays the child of a movie star who is trying to make his way without his dad's help. They meet as teenagers at summer camp and in the meet-cute way that I find best, they keep running into each other in random ways throughout their lives. They run into each other in college even though they don't go to the same college, then years later the run into each other at some sort of outdoor market and then one night Ashton drunk dials all the girls in his phone. Natalie being the one to rescue him. It wasn't that night but later they hook up and decide to make it a thing. They call each other when they are feeling lonely and they do what they need to do then they go on their way.

Can this arrangement work? Everyone is telling them that it won't work but I think it works a lot more than people think. I think it is possible but not forever because people do change their minds and want different things. But I think it works as well as any kind of relationship including marriage. Just because you want something one year and don't want something three years later doesn't mean it didn't work for those three years. It just means that people change and grow and that will never be a bad thing. In both of these movies they end up together because they are rom-coms but I don't think they have to end up together to be successful. That is my take on the movie. That and that Friends with Benefits better.
